Sweet!
Happy Easter, you people.
Very very nice, something about holidays and kids makes them so much more pleasureable.
If you look up Lithuanian Easter eggs you will see what a big deal Easter eggs are in Lithuania. A tradition on Easter morning is to take the plainer hard boiled eggs and as one person holds their egg have another person tap it with their egg and see which one cracks first.
I don’t know what the trick was, but in all the years that I tried to break my father’s egg, I was never successfull. I can still hear my mother yelling at him to let me win, and watch him smile as I would go thru a dozen eggs in a futile attempt. I’m glad he never let me win, since I wouldn’t have this fond memory of a great man.
I never realized you lived in such a bad neighborhood, until I saw all those trained attack dogs in your kitchen. to protect you.
“…all those trained attack dogs in your kitchen…”
I refer to them as “cats”; they’re not big enough to be called dogs ;-)
Enjoyable.
Something tells me you all would be very happy on a ranch.
A ranch would be nice…as long as there’s wifi Internet connection, HD cable, and a Domino’s and SteakOut delivery service pretty close ;-)
oh.
I guess Malibu Ranch will have to be it.
I grew up out in the country, so cable tv and pizza delivered to the door is still a novelty. I think it’d be nice to have a house in the city and a ranch out west to cut brush on…ohhhhh crap, I’m turning into Dubya! Hey, I don’t want to invade anybody yet.
Seriously, the family was talking about the next great vacation in a couple of years when the little one is five or so…I’ve been all through Colorado and Wyoming, Badlands, etc., but never been to the Grand Canyon. Sounds like it would be a great trip, except we’re not sure about how a 5-year-old would survive the hiking we’d want to do. Any other great off-the-beaten track vacation spots out west you’d recommend?
Joe, if you ever come west again, drop me a line. The distances between interesting sights are relatively great and down dusty roads and you have to be careful of running out of gas, flat tires, food and water, etc. but there are some real cool sights and things to do and no crowds.
Caves that you can swim into, caves that are in the middle of nowhere, warm springs, deep cold springs, spear and pole fish in the middle of nowhere, hunt for arrowheads where ever you put a foot down, old homesteads, cattle drives, coyote, rattlesnakes, huge golden eagles sitting on fence posts right next to you on the dirt road, innumerable snakes on the gravel road, some squashed, some not, mostly blow or king, but some rattlers (never heard of any snakes in a sleeping bag), cave painting by ancient people, that field of sunflowers I mentioned in an earlier post, old mines, sand dunes, the oldest trees in the world, lakes at 10K, trout you can catch by hand, old casino’s, true stories of Indian attacks of not too long ago…of gun fights of not too long ago…of eyes getting skinned and sheriffs shot, ancient sabre toothed tigers, ancient horses, ancient camels, canyons full of ripe berries, the pony express trail…and re-enactment each year, wild horses racing in herds and passing just in front of your truck…like it is a game for them, real cowboys and even more real…buckeroo’s, mountains full of crystals, a sky full of stars, the howl and yap of coyotes while you sit at a campfire, the screech of an owl or night hawk while you are in your bag, real people…like out of the pages of national geographic, the most beautiful country girls and the most sturdy, weathered ranchers, horses that are smarter than people, miles and miles of nothing…unless you know where to look…all in a 50 - 100 mile radius.
Xman, if you’re not an adventure tour guide for the rich and famous, you missed your calling. We’re not going to get away on any big excursions this summer, but probably next summer sometime…and if we plan to make it anywhere west of Kansas City (and I think we will…), I’ll be emailing you.
Xman God must have been a cowboy, since he made the west so beautiful. Even when I go to Vegas, I spend some time on Lake Mead enjoying the desert.
I do like sharing. Some really great people have shared with me.
I think you are right, Joe. There is a great adventure business sitting there for the right person. I have given it some thought.
Yeah, Pelmo, if God is anything, he appreciates the Cowboy/Country life. These people have to be some sort of societal foundation. Not all saints and not all sinners, but a unique breed.
I think I’m going to Colorado in June. Any ideas XMan?
LaSirena,
I don’t know Colorado at all…except the cigar bar in the Brown Palace, downtown Denver.
