Doddering Senile Fred Thompson

Fred ThompsonYesterday in Newton Iowa, Fred Thompson said Saddam Hussein had WMD:

We can’t forget the fact that although at a particular point in time we never found any WMD down there he clearly had had WMD. He clearly had had the beginnings of a nuclear program. And in my estimation his intent never did change. And by today, he clearly would have had that rejuvenated. Especially looking at what Iran said that it’s doing.

What doddering old Fred Thompson fails to mention is that, according to the Iraq Survey Group’s final word on the matter, Saddam’s WMD program and his nuclear program were destroyed and ended after the 1991 Gulf War.

If Fred Thompson thinks he’s clever enough to rewrite history by telling lies (and I consider deceptive half-truths lies), I think I can do it better. So, I’m taking this opportunity to announce my run for President of the U.S. of A.

While I come up with a platform, I’d like to remind everybody that at the time Columbus arrived, there were no indigenous people on what is today known as the American continent. Also, Hitler was actually a fictitious character that people have come to associate with a real 20th century dictator through mass misinterpretation of a quatrain written by Nostradamus. The Apollo moon landing was a fake. And Arabs wielding box cutters rendered NORAD impotent by flying magic carpets disguised as planes around Washington and New York.

Oh, yeah, and Fred Thompson? He IS the real Santa Claus.

    Fred Thompson is a smart man … or at least plays one on TV. He was minority counsel during Watergate so he knows a thing or two about conspiracies. I think he is on to something with this WMD talk:

    I think Fred is clueless like a fox. Take for example his coverage by Newsweek compared to everyone else. He wins hands down.
    We at stinkyjournalism.org (a not-for-profit media ethics program) counted the Newsweek GOP stories from Sept ‘06-Sept ‘07:

    We wrote: “”Skim the last 12 months of news and you’ll see that no publication has followed Thompson’s political him-hawing like Newsweek. A total of 17 Newsweek articles - including a September cover story - feature Thompson. Meanwhile, the competition is suffering. John McCain’s got 10 articles. Rudy Giuliani’s got 7. The fading Mitt Romney has 6. Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul, a paltry 1. The rest of the major declared candidates Tom Tancredo, Sam Brownback and Duncan Hunter don’t even register on the Fred-philic pages of Newsweek.” ( Read more at http://www.stinkyjournalism.org/latest-journalism-news-updates-94.php. )

    How can Newsweek,an objective, ahem, news magazine, totally ignore so many candidates (Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, Sam Brownback and Duncan Hunter all declared) while they focus on Thompson? This is democracy? Why aren’t the other camps publicly complaining about the special treatment shown by Newsweek’s extra Thompson coverage? More than half of the 17 articles featuring Thompson occurred before he was a candidate. Go figure.

    We did ask. Stinkyjournalism.org tried to get Newsweek to explain but they refused to respond to our inquiries. Cricket Sounds. That’s why we raised the bar and made the “The Thompson Twins (gay cowboys) music video”. We want to draw attention to Newsweek’s undisclosed crush on Thompson that is hidden in plain sight. Our goal is to hold the media accountable. Democracy depends on the ethical standards practiced by the press.

    You folks will notice that the link you folks provided said the CIA report stated this;
    “According to a report by the CIA’s Charles Duelfer, Saddam Hussein did not have WMD when the war began.”

    Well, read the following article and the several articles it links to and you’ll understand the WMD’s were spirited out just before the war began which would correspond with every person or article we ever heard from for appx. a decade;

    Don’t Be So Sure There Were No WMD in Iraq

  5. JoeC Says:

    I still don’t see any proof that WMD were spirited out of the country. What I do know is that the UN inspectors consistently found tips from US intelligence to turn out to be “garbage” (their own words) (link). I also know that the US had been looking for a reason to invade Saddam ever since the late 1990s, as evidenced by this time line: link. And I also know that almost everybody in the Bush administration lied about the WMD by telling the world they knew for sure he had them, they knew where they were, that he even had planes he was planning to use to crop dust Americans with poison, yada yada yada.

    Did Hussein ever say he had WMD? Sure, he probably told his generals and cronies he had WMD so they’d stay and fight. He probably even told other countries that he had WMD to keep Iran and others wary of invading. But after the fact, the evidence points overwhelmingly to the fact that he really didn’t have squat, and even more so that our leaders KNEW he didn’t have squat but told a lie to the public to sell the invasion they wanted. Now Thompson and others are trying to rewrite history rather than admit the lies. The sad thing is that so many people will buy the baloney.

  6. pelmo Says:

    I’m going to scream if I hear someone else mention WMD for the millionth time. Just drop that subject, and find someone that will come up with a solution that will get us out of this mess.

    If all these so called experts quit bickering like kids on a play ground. Maybe we could get out of this with some dignity in tact.

    While I am at it no more talking about your not supporting the troops, or the famous “we are fighting them there, so we won’t be doing it here”.

  7. Xman Says:

    Just more proof that we don’t need different leaders or any leaders at all. What we need is more people ignoring idiots. Unfortunately, we are a nation of idiot watchers.

    I’m simply going to opt out.
    At first I thought I could change things. Then I used to feel it was valuable to observe the goings on…from an anthropological perspective. Then I started looking at them like they were zoo exhibts. Now I think they are more like insane asylum inmates.

    In any case, it is foolish to give them the time of day, let alone my vote….the process of which is rigged anyway. I think I’ll just do as I wish…live my life without harming anyone, try to live outside society and from time to time just stand back and watch as another part of our society crashes to the ground like an old skyscraper. It is far too rotten to save and the cure is as bad as the disease.

    As long as I allow this crap to hold my attention, they have my focus. I like my focus being on things that give me pleasure. Different things make different people happy.

  8. Indigobusiness Says:

    These rightwing book cookers have no interest in honest argument, to further the collective well-being. Never, ever, try to reason with anyone who isn’t interested in fair bargaining. They just jerk your chain to further their own self-interest. Leave them to their delusions, and move forward, else be mired by their stagnant slime.

    I’d sooner vote for Bad Santa.

  9. Indigobusiness Says:

    What some people don’t seem to realize, even corruption has a critical mass.

  10. James Says:

    Well, it appears that Fred is like Reagan in one way, he can’t remember sh*t.
