YES! Fear is the cancer that is devouring our nation. The Democrats are afraid to check the Bush Regime, the people are afraid to talk about impeachment, afraid to call a man greedy and blood thirsty because that man calls himself a christian, afraid to rock the boat because they might have to swim.

As FDR said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

And as Zapata said,
"Better to die on your feet than live on your knees."

Fear...I think you hit the nail on the head! I'm also frustrated at how closed-minded we seem to have grown (maybe we were always this close-minded and just disguised it well?) It's gotten to where some thoughts are just off-limits, or even if they're allowed they are labeled "crazy" without consideration and disallowed via ridicule.

Xman, you hit it on the head. Watching the debates you see all the leading candidates spewing the same lines, afraid to deviate even the least bit. As you say someone like Ron Paul or Gravel are considered novelties and we are told not to pay attention to them even tho they have some original and well thought out ideas. Plus they are not the Madison Ave. good looking and suave as the rest of the field.

The fear that bothers me most is what I see in my friends and countrymens eyes when anyone asks them to consider thinking about an issue from a different perspective. No one wants to be seen as other than normal and healthy as defined by those in charge...so they certainly can't consider what Ron Paul has to say, or think for a minute that maybe Israel is part of the problem, or the corporations are the real problem, or that all the evidence suggests that WE, the great USA have become more like a virus than a civilization. And even if they do see, sense or suspect that something bad is happening, they are afraid to say anything for fear they will risk their possessions, their job, their social standing, etc.
Yeah, fear. My fear is that it can't be turned around.
