Sad, but mostly true...I won't say totally true because I know some good-as-Ghandi Christians that are tolerant and good-to-the-core, quietly helping people without seeking attention or asking for handouts. I know a lot of atheists that fit the same mold...no belief (or nonbelief) system owns the patent for morals and character, as far as I've seen.

But for the most part, I would agree that the majority of people calling themselves Christians today seem to be equivalent with the Pharisees Jesus bitched at so much (Jesus, taken as historical person OR fictional character, depending on your belief.) I call them Amway Christians...trying to sell something, trying to make a buck, trying to convince themselves they are better than others by stepping all over other people.

It's also been my experience that not all Republicans are buttheads...about a decade ago I ran into a Republican who didn't seem conceited at all, and ever since I've kept my eyes open in case I ever run across another one ;-)

Joe,

This is the Republican and Christian way. You sin, go get absolved of the sin and then do it again. It's just a nice little merry-go-round that the leaders of moral values are on.

Pete: treachery, deceit, sex, many wars, grab for absolute power...I think the Bush administration has it all covered. ;-)

Xman: of all the things Gingrich has done, what annoys me most is how he demands the rest of America live up to some moral code of family values that he's repeatedly failed to follow himself. You said it...slimmmmme baaaaalllll!

I'm usually far less concerned about a public servants personal habits than I am about their loyalty to our founding laws. However, when it comes to those who might end up being the prime example for an entire nation, maybe we should get someone other than an actor in a greek play.

I think marriage is still a legal contract and there are still adultry laws. I can't imagine he would be anymore honorable about upholding laws that affect the rest of us if he ignores the ones that apply to him.
Says a lot about the respect he has for his kids too.

Let's face it. He's a slime ball.

Wasn't it treatchery, deceit, sex, to many wars and the grab for absolute power that led to the downfall of Rome? As Rome played, everyone else grew in power and stature? Then for good measure they threw in a few temples to all the gods. Doesn't this sound a bit familiar?
