Humble Visitor: It is creepy, but it's sort of fascinating too. I mean, there's a finite set of possibilities here:

1. An unknown intelligence is speaking through the lady, either God, Holy Spirit, an angel, or a demon. (Somebody suggested offline that the language sounds like Farsi...anybody out there who speaks Farsi care to comment?)

2. There is no other intelligence speaking through the lady, but she really does believe it is. This could just be through really trying to believe very hard, or maybe she's schizo or something.

3. The lady knows there's no other intelligence, and she's just a fraud. This doesn't necessarily mean she's a bad person, she may just be trying to fit in with the other evangelicals who tell her she's supposed to speak in tongues. Or she could be pure evil, too.

It's an interesting world...

Lynne: Hehehe...well, I have mixed feelings about the video. And, after trying to see it from all sides, I didn't comment and just posted the link. But, since it's open for discussion now...

Part of me thinks, well, it's a free country and it's good to see people emersing themselves in spirituality and their own faith and belief systems, and experiencing spiritual ecstacy and heaping blessings on their leader.

What creeps me out is the nagging suspicion that the adult leaders coaching those children are as closed-minded and intolerant as President Bush about the religious experiences and practices of others (Muslims, for example...) who might choose to experience spirituality or commune with a higher power in a different manner than they do.

It's that underlying hint of intolerance that turns my stomach. But maybe that's me projecting my own assumptions onto these people...maybe the people in the video are really very tolerant very inclusive folks, and I should assume THAT first, as there is not evidence in the video of them judging anybody else.

All that said, it's just enlightening that this IS who some Americans are, and this IS how we look to other countries, and when we disparage other non-Christian cultures for brainwashing their children, on that count, we don't have a splintered wooden leg to stand on.
