From the right, I hear a bunch of this sentiment: Let’s just heal. Why live in the past? Things are screwed up and we need to focus on fixing them, not on punishing people for mistakes we can’t take back. It’ll just be bad for our country.

To these forgive-and-forget conservatives, I say: You had the chance to put your money where your mouth is when you cheered on Ken Starr as he threw away $6.2 million and wasted six entire months to prove Clinton lied about a blow job.

And I disagree that it will just be bad for our country. Punishing this administration’s criminal acts will serve as a warning to the next administration, be it Democrat or Republican, that no citizen is above this country’s laws. NOT punishing them is akin to telling a five-year-old, “I’m going to count to three and when I get to three you better put that candy bar down….one…two…two and a half…I’m serious…oh, all right. You can eat the candy bar.”

So, to borrow a line from Brad Pitt playing Floyd in True Romance, “Don’t condescend me, man!”

And to quote one of the bumper stickers in the post on which we’re commenting, for the love of God, “IMPEACH CHENEY FIRST!!!” ;-)
